New Zealand's premier Rugby League team the Vodafone Warriors made quite a splash Takapuna Beach on Tuesday, trading the rugby ball for paddles at a Stand Up Paddle Fitness session with some of our top riders.
With the NRL season fast approaching, the Stand Up Paddleboarding was treated as a cross training fitness session for the players, where they were expected to work hard, and of course have a whole lot of fun whilst doing so. After a lesson on correct SUP technique with Starboard International Dream Team Rider Annabel Anderson, they took to the water for competitive relay races, ending in some friendly team sabotage to get players and coaches off their boards. Some of the boys even tried their hand at catching some waves, which they did quite successfully.
We'll look forward to seeing the Warriors for another SUP session sometime soon - hopefully there's some slightly bigger swells next time to really give them a challenge...
