
The field will be split into two draws: Draw 1 (Open 12'6"): Open Men, Open Women, and Masters will all race together in 8 person heats. Draw 2 (Novice 12'6 and Under): Novice, Surfboard, Junior.
The Open Draw will be seeded based on all season results. The Novice draw won't be seeded. Those not seeded will go into a qualifying round. Paddlers that miss qualifying will go to repecharge round to make up final competitors for the round of 32. From the round of 32 its a straight knockout to the final. The same format will apply for Novice/Surfboard/Junior.Each class will have its own final based on the results from the knockout rounds. The finals will be an extended course.
There is also an area set aside for beginners and kids to have-a-go. Northland Paddleboarding will be running free taster beginner sessions on the beach throughout the festival, along with races and fun activities for youngsters (weather and water conditions permitting). Youngsters wanting to participate in the games should bring a wetsuit or change of clothes (and a bouyancy aid if they own one), as there's every likelihood of getting wet!
On the grass will be a big SUP Expo, with sponsor stalls displaying all the latest gear from Starboard, WSP, SUPCentre, The Board Store, C4 Waterman and Paddle Surf Hawaii, Naish, Kialoa, Gaastra, Luke Short and Anderson, Stand Up Takapuna, The Board Shop, The Water Shed, and Red Paddle Co. Also to be found are bargains in the 2nd hand corner.
