Steelman Challenge

Steelman Challenge

We're looking forward to Sunday's Steelman Challenge - with an action-packed morning at the beach then relaxed prizegiving at The Commons from 12pm.

Congratulations to top fundraisers.  It's great to see so many of you reaching your targets!

With only two days to go it's time to do one last push on your fundraising pages, make sure your team-mates are amped and ready to charge, and get your team superhero cape ready (the cape will act as your relay baton).

This week we revealed online the seven obstacles that will make up the Steelman Challenge.  They are the:

  • Crowd Goes Wild Rockclimb

  • Ultimate Boards Balance Test

  • Peppers Grinder

  • Hirepool Hurdles and Orange Crawl

  • Hyperdrive Tyre Run

  • Seated Brick Pull

  • Sandbag Sprints

In between each obstacle is a short (350m) stand up paddle lap.  Teams can choose what order to complete the obstacles, and which team member will do each obstacle and each paddle lap.  You can swap over the superhero cape any time.

As there are only 2 Grinding Pedestals and 4 Rockclimbing walls, your team will need to use clever tactics to get around the course, but that's all part of the Challenge!  Download the full rules and instructions here.

Check in at the Takapuna Boating Club and pick up your Steelman t-shirt and Quest bar between 8am and 9.30am on Sunday

Then grab a coffee from Nomad Espresso and a homemade date scone (Steelman Superfood) while you suss out the course...

Tunes will be playing, Starboard stand up paddleboards will be available to warm up on the water from 8.30am, and the Crowd Goes Wild Rockclimbing wall will be open from 8am.  There's also a bouncy castle for the kids thanks to RockUp, and Jay from Auburn St Physio will be giving massages.

At the Ultimate Boards sponsor and demo tent you can suss out all the latest balance-training equipment to improve your skills when you can’t get on the water.  Check out their awesome range of skate gear, longboards with Big Kahuna Sticks, Indo Gigante cushions to turn your SUP into an indoor trainer, and Goof Boards - both Classic and Freestyle.

Peppers Polarized Eyeware will be showing off their awesome range of floating sunglasses, with a great event special of 15% discount (making them just $85) AND $33 will go to the Pinc and Steel Cancer Rehabilitation Trust.

Be prepared for the cold snap with Winter Thermal Paddling wear.  Starboard have Mens and Womens longsleeved paddling tops on event special for just $60, and wetsuits for just $120.  There will also be a range of boards to demo, both new and ex-demo, so be sure to catch up with Jeremy if you're in the market for new gear!

Quest Nutrition bars have one of the best nutritional profiles of any protein bar on the market, with 20g of protein, 2-7g Active Carbs, tons of fiber, no sugar added and no junk.  More importantly they taste great!  Coupon code QUEST5 can be redeemed online at www.nzmuscle.co.nz by typing in at checkout.

Thanks also to all our other sponsors for helping pull this event together: Benefitz and Channel Magazine for the awesome artwork, printing and media; Pak N Save Albany for the t-shirts; UM for the sounds; COA Productions for the video; Georgia Schofield Photography; Fergs for loaning boards; Balance Nutrition for the hydration tent;  Allpress, Fonterra and Nomad Espresso for the coffee; Takapuna Boating Club for the venue; The Commons for the prizegiving, discounted drinks and bbq lunch; and everyone else for the cool prizegiving contributions - including Action World, NZ Muscle Therapy, Bruce Page for the Nike GPS Training Watches, Makaraka Estate Wines, Peppers and Starboard.

Remember all money raised from the event will go directly to patients in New Zealand who are wanting to start physical rehabilitation after their cancer surgery.

Learning to live with cancer or the effects of cancer is tough.  Physical Rehabilitation during and after cancer treatment is extremely important for reducing the short and long-term side effects of cancer treatments and for physical and emotional recovery.    Also physical activity is proven to increase the chance of surviving cancer and reduce the chance of getting it again.

Thank you for your support of The Pinc and Steel Cancer Rehabilitation Trust.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch.

See you on Sunday!
