Starboard NZ Dream Team Rider

2011 Top 20, ASP Stand Up World Tour (Hawaii, January)

2011 2nd place, Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour (New Zealand, January-March)

2010 First to SUP Cook Strait (August)

2010 Winner of the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour (New Zealand)

“The dedication I have towards SUP (Stand Up Paddling) has come from an internal desire to exceed my own perceptions of what is possible. Commitment to this idea has continued to create opportunities that have allowed me to reach my goals. I feel that I’m more focused than ever and committed to pursuing a future with endless possibilities and no boundaries within this sport.”

As a result of his dedication to Stand up paddle surfing, last year Shayne was invited to be the first New Zealander to compete in the ASP Stand Up World Tour.  With Steinlager Pure sponsorship Shayne travelled to the premier Stand Up World tour event in Hawaii in January 2011 and placed 20th.

“Stand Up Paddling is one of the world’s fastest growing sports and the ‘in thing to do’. It has a universal, contemporary cultural look and feel that stands out a lot more than other general surfing styles. SUP is for everyone, this is why flat water racing and recreational paddling is absolutely booming on a National and International level.”

As a hard-working, good looking male athlete with a growing positive reputation, Shayne has been well sought after by television programs, documentary makers, online media and magazines and have appeared in numerous programs and publications. TV 1 & 3 News NZ, 20/20, Discovery Channel, Sky Sports, Maori TV, New Zealand Geographic magazine, Kiwisurf mag, NZSurfing mag, Curl mag, Slide mag, surfingnz.co.nz, surf.co.nz, surfersvillage.com, surfinglife.com.au, towsurfer.com.

He also gained massive exposure nationally and internationally being a personal surfing and adventure guide within New Zealand.  This experience led to Shayne being a big part of the Documentary called Storm Surfers, with Tom Carroll, Ross Clarke Jones and Doug Young, which went to air on the Discovery Channel, July 2010.  He was also involved with a SUP promo and appeared on Hyundai sports code on Maori TV, in August 2010.

Shayne has just moved from Christchurch to Auckland, leaving his red-taped home to come on board with Starboard SUPSNZ.  He brings a unique blend of athletic skills to Stand Up, from Mixed Marshall Arts, Big Wave Surfing and Waka, and is now available for personal SUP coaching both flat water and surf.
