Starboard Paddle For Hope 2014 - course revealed!

The newly developed St Mary's Bay in Westhaven

Now in its fourth year, the hugely popular Starboard Paddle For Hope has outgrown the Viaduct Harbour, and will this year be at the new inner-city location of St Mary's Bay, Westhaven.

With plenty of free parking, a great new 96m long jetty to launch boards from, and a bay free of boats, we're really excited about turning St Mary's Bay pink for cancer rehab on Saturday 1 November!

We're also really excited to announce two new charity benefactors for the event, The Pink and Steel Cancer Rehabilitation Trust - helping men and women affected by all types of cancer, and Sweet Louise, supporting men and women with secondary breast cancer.  A minimum of 75% of the total event income (from funds-raised, registration fees and sponsorship) goes to these charities, for cancer sufferers to access the PINC, STEEL and PADDLE ON Cancer Rehabilitation Programs.  Start your TEAM fundraising page now!

We're turning the sea pink on Saturday 1st November 2014, in St Mary's Bay, Auckland City.

Have-a-go

If you’re new to paddleboarding 11am - 1pm is your chance to give it a go in a fun, non-threatening environment, under expert guidance from NZ’s top Stand Up Paddlers. We guarantee you’ll be on your feet and paddling in no time! Board, paddle and leash provided.

Get your hula on

From 11am the Hawaiian dancers will be sharing their moves with all those who wish to take part!  Meet at the Jucy Camper.  Workshops every 20min.

Yogaboarding

In yogaboarding the Stand Up Paddleboard is your personal floating yoga mat.  This thoroughly challenges the body's core and adds another awesome dimension to your yoga workout as you maintain your stability.  Lululemon Professional Yoga Ambassadors will invite everyone to take part in some simple yoga flow sequences that you can perform on your SUP board or on the beach to activate your core and warm up your muscles.

Free demos every 20min.

Fastest Paddler on Earth Sprint Race

This 200m sprint will showcase the strength and speed of some of New Zealand's top paddlers, and give Industry teams and NZ personalities already competing on the fundraising leaderboard the chance to claim their bragging rights on the water. Sprint race numbers strictly limited - to enter you must be paddling in the teams relay race.   Paddlers will paddle a one way 200m sprint course from the jetty at Z-Pier toward the beach. Unlimited board length. Course is the red line running E-W on the map above.

Elite knockout format sprint - don't miss out, go to www.regonline.co.nz/pfh2014 and enter as an "adult team member" ($65) - you can work out your team later!

Paddle for Hope 2014- Team Relay Race

This is the main event. Each person will paddle once around a fixed heart shaped course (approx 700m) that runs in a clockwise direction around St Mary's Bay, before handing over the board and paddle to the next team member on the beach. Total distance 2800m. Expected time 15 min per person. See the pink line on the map above.

Don't miss out. Enter your team now

We can only accommodate a limited number of four person teams, so if you want to support Pinc and Steel Cancer Rehabilitation Trust and have a lot of fun, register online now.

A spectator spectacular

To make the event even more fun and a fantastic spectacle for onlookers and media alike, we want everyone to go the extra mile and do the event in fancy dress - pink of course. There are prizes for the best costumes!

Supporters and admiring fans are free to watch the action from a number of great vantage points around the bay and along the new boardwalk.

Prizegiving

After the race, paddlers, supporters, celebrities and sponsors are invited to attend a prize giving on the grass reserve. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers, race-winners, best costumes and best decorations.

See you on Sat 1 November!
