Starboard NZ, in association with Seawise and the Takapuna Boating Club brings you a comprehensive workshop covering everything you need to know about heading more than 200m from shore.
Reading and Interpreting Wind, Currents, Tides, Marine Charts and local topography are all vitally important parts of your Stand Up Paddle toolkit, and armed with all this knowledge you'll be choosing safer, faster routes that will only enhance your paddling fun.
Local Marine Safety Expert Alan Gwyer of Seawise (endorsed by ISAF, Yachting New Zealand, the Australian Yachting Federation and Coastguard Boating Education New Zealand) joins experienced offshore sailor and paddler Jeremy Stephenson and International paddler Campbell Farrell to teach you the essentials and more.
This is a must for anyone training for and entering the King of the Harbour race.
Safety at Sea (79-81 Gaunt St, Westhaven) have kindly donated one bumbag-style PFD valued at $180 as sponsors of the King of the Harbour SUP Race, and we'll be giving it away in a prize draw on Monday night to one lucky person who pre-registers and turns up on Monday night.
We'll also have a limited quantity of the same bumbag PFD available at a special discounted rate on the night ($150) and you'll be able to view and handle all the latest personal safety equipment recommended for Stand Up Paddlers.
Quiz the experts and up your chances of winning the race.
