Information:  The finale at Port Waikato will determine the Hyundai Tour Champions for 2012.

The usually quiet Sunset Beach at Port Waikato will this weekend play host to the final event of the 2012 Hyundai Tour which starts on Friday (2nd March). New Zealand's best longboarders and Stand Up Paddlers will head to the West Coast beach in a bid to claim one of the seven Tour titles up for grabs.

The event marks the culmination of a five event series that has visited Raglan, Piha, Sandy Bay and Mount Maunganui. Surfers have travelled around the country to the weekend events competing against each other and just as importantly having fun with friends and family.

And indeed one lucky family will drive away in a new Hyundai Santa Fe. Each time two family members enter the water at an event on the tour they go into the draw to win the use of a Santa Fe for twelve months.

Christchurch surfer Shayne Baxter is hoping to reverse the fortunes of 2011 where he finished runner up to Daniel Kereopa (Rag) in the Stand Up Paddleboard Division. Going into this final event Baxter has the edge, holding down the number one spot. However it will be whoever can finish this weekend with the best result that will claim the hotly contested title.

The conditions will be set to play a major role in the Stand Up Paddleboard Race dubbed 'The King of the Waves' this weekend. The expected big surf at Port Waikato will make conditions unruly and paddlers will need to use all of their ocean skills to navigate the line up in and around the 3.0km race course. Raglan's Armie Armstrong leads the pack and will wear the red shirt followed closely by Jeremy Stephenson (Auck) and Shayne Baxter (Chch). Barring a major upset the title will go to either Armstrong or Stephenson come the end of the event.

The final event of the 2012 Hyundai Tour will take place from 8:00am - 4:00pm daily (Friday and Saturday) at Sunset Beach. The running order of events will be confirmed once conditions for the two days of surfing are assessed further with a major low pressure system set to move across the North Island at some stage during the weekend.
