Auckland Urban Paddle Adventures

SAT 6 MAY  |  SUN 14 MAY  |  SAT 20 MAY  |   SUN 28 MAY  |  SAT 17 JUN

Uncover Auckland's lesser known waterways, coastlines, rivers, islands, wildlife and marine sanctuaries by paddleboard, mountainbike and foot this autumn. WIth slightly off-the-beaten-track locations like Rangitoto Island, Puhoi River and Waiwera Hot Springs, Okura River and Long Bay Regional Park, Orakei Creek and Waterfall and the Eastern Beaches, prepare to be wowed by towering sea-cliffs and quiet rivers, regenerating Kauri forests and giant Puriri Groves, Oyster Catchers, Kotuku and much more as we explore by water, trails and gravel tracks.

Open all

Expect to paddle anywhere between 4-8km, and walk/run a distance of 1-5km. The mountainbike ride at Long Bay is 6km. Each of the adventures is somewhat wind and weather dependent, so we do have a few alternative locations up our sleeves should Mother Nature decide to play games.

Adventures with mountain biking and trail-running options are designed for easy transitions and transport, and most cater to a range of ability levels (see event info or contact us if you are not sure). Board and bike rental will be available, and newcomers to SUP will be expertly guided by our certified PaddleFit Pro and ISA SUP Instructor coaches, Victoria and Helen.

We’ll also have some @SeaCleaners blue bags with us to collect any trash we find along the way.

As with all outdoor activities, you will need to come prepared for a change in weather, so bring warm layers of merino or thermal clothing and a light rain jacket. Please carry water (either by camelbak or we can attach a water bottle to your board), and snacks.

All paddlers need to wear a PFD and a leash (supplied with rental boards). Bring a towel and change of clothes. Brightly coloured hi-vis clothing and a cell-phone in a waterproof case are also required. Where there is a trail run option you may need to pop your sneakers and socks in a dry bag or plastic bag on your board (we'll have space in our drybags for extras).

Sat 6 May - Orakei Basin and Waterfall Paddle and Trail walk/run. 11am-1.30pm. All levels. $59 / $39 BYOB. Meet at the Basin carpark (Orakei Rd) at 11am for a warmup walk or run around trail, over bridges and boardwalks with views of waterskiers performing for competition. SUP from 12pm-1.30pm.

Sun 14 May - Mother's Day Puhoi to the Sea Paddle. 9am-12pm - allow extra time for hot pools. All levels. Moderate Fitness required. $69 / $49 BYOB (pool entry is separate).

Mon 15 May - Mothers Day Rangitoto Summit Paddle and Trail walk/run (weather permitting). Intermediate to Experienced Paddlers. Moderate Fitness. 1pm-4pm. (12'6 or Over).

Sun 28 May - Bucklands Beach to Browns Island and Musick Point. Paddle and Climb (weather permitting). Moderate Fitness and some prior paddling experience recommended. 9am-12pm. $69/$49 BYOB

Sat 17 June - Okura River and Long Bay Mountainbike, Paddle and Bush walk. Some prior paddling experience recommended. Moderate Fitness required. Mountainbike (6km) is optional but highly recommended. Paddle and Okura Bush Walkway can be completed without the bike leg. 11am-4pm
$119 / $99 (bike rental additional).

To pre-register for any of the adventures please email and let me know which adventure you are interested in and your paddling ability, along with your contact details.
Numbers are limited for transport, safety and logistical reasons, so please let us know earlier rather than later if you are thinking about coming.

Cost will vary according to the adventure, logistics, board rental, safety and transport required. Cost ranges from $39 if you BYOB (bring your own board) for the shorter events like Orakei Basin to $119 for Okura, with discounts if you bring your own equipment. 20% Discount for groups of three or more.

We'll try to arrange carpools too, so let us know where you're coming from, and if you'd prefer to drive or are looking for a ride to the destination.
