NZ SUP Nationals is New Zealand's premier SUP event, featuring a two-day festival of Stand Up Paddle board racing that brings together paddlers from all over the country and the world.

15-18km Distance Marathon and shorter options on Saturday, followed by the exciting BOP-style technical course racing in and out of the surf on Sunday, alongside Technical Racing (not in surf), kids racing and flatwater novice events, and a festival of SUP sponsors, music and food at Orewa Beach. DAY ONE: Distance Racing
15-18km Long Distance Course
The course will depend on wind direction. The maps below show likely course options, but these may change depending on wind direction. The course will be confirmed at the race briefing. There are several other options and conditions on the day will dictate. The Race Director and NZ SUP Nationals Course Committee will set the course based on their knowledge of the area and conditions. While every effort will be made to hold a downwind race, this is not guaranteed and it is highly likely at this venue that there will be an upwind component to the course.
Elite + Age Group Divisions, U17, U40 Mens, 40+ Mens, 
 U50 Womens, 50+, 65+ Mens
Option 1: NORTH / NORTH EAST BREEZE 16.5km Otarawao Bay - Orewa Beach
Option 2: SOUTH WEST BREEZE Orewa Beach - Mahurangi West
Option 3: East / North East Breeze 16km Army Bay - Orewa Beach
Option 4: NORTH WEST WIND Orewa to Wenderholm to Army Bay

6-8 km Distance Courses
The 6-8km race will depend on wind direction and start or finish at Orewa Beach. Age Group U17, U40 Mens, 40+ Mens, U50 Womens, 50+, 65+ Mens
OPTION 1 : Wenderholm to Orewa (North / NE wind)
OPTION 2: Orewa to Wenderholm (South / SW wind)

3 km Distance Courses - Social Race and Surfboard Class Race
The 3km race will depend on wind direction and knots.
Age Groups: U13*, U17*, and Over 17 Mens (14’ and Under), U13*, U17*, and Over 17 Womens (12’6 and Under), Surfboard Class Mens, Surfboard Class Womens

OPTION 3: WAIWERA ESTUARY (Stronger Wind Option)

Surf Races
The Technical Surf Races will be raced over an extended M-shaped course. The course will be set by the Race Director in consultation with the Course Committee and shown at the race briefing. The course may change throughout the day as conditions dictate, at the Race Director’s discretion. Any changes will be posted to the official notice board. The Surf Race course will start and finish on the beach. All paddlers will complete two, three or more laps, depending on the weather and swell conditions. Any decision to change the course will be at the Race Director’s sole discretion.

Social Races
The Social Race Courses will be raced over a 3km course that may start and finish on the water out behind the breaking waves, or from the beach with only one out and in through the surf zone. The best course will be set according to the wind and swell on the day.

Kids (U13, U17) and Novice 1km race - 8am flatwater race in Estuary or on Orewa Beach if conditions allow.

8.00am - 3km Distance Race Late Rego/check-in at Start Location
9.00am - 3km Distance Race Brief at Start Location
9.15am - 3km Distance Race Start
10:00 am - Late Registration/check-in opens at the Orewa Surf Club
11:30 am - Late Registration/check-in-closes
12:00 pm - Briefing for the 15km-18km Distance Race at Orewa Surf Club
12:10 pm - Briefing for the 5-8km Distance Race at the Orewa Surf Club
1:30 pm - 15-18km Distance Race Start
2:30 pm (approximately) - 6-8km Distance Race Start Offshore race commences at a location to be advised, to finish at the Orewa Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC). Please attend the 12.10pm Distance race briefing for precise start time and location.
6:00 pm – Prize giving for both Distance Races at Orewa SLSC. There will be entertainment later in the evening. There will be a licensed cash bar and dinner available for competitors and guests by pre-purchase with online entry.
Dinner at Orewa SLSC will be fully catered and available by pre-purchase only for participants and friends/family with online registration for $25 adult, $10 child.

Sunday 12th March: Technical races
high tide 8:06 am; low tide 2:17pm

7:00 am Late Registration/Check-In opens at the reserve next to the Orewa SLSC
8am Kids Race - at estuary or in front of surf club - Kids/Novice Race Brief at 8am at Start Location, race starts 8.10am
8:00 am – Registration closes
8:45 am - Briefing for the Technical Races at the Orewa SLSC
9:00am - Racing will commence
Prizegiving for the Technical Racing will begin at the conclusion of racing at the Orewa SLSC. Dinner available (pre-purchase only) - Adults $25 or Child $10. Please book dinner tickets with your registration.

Entry in all divisions will be via online registration
Early bird discounts will be available until midnight on 20th January 2017.
Participants in the 6-8km Short Distance races and the Sunday Technical races may enter on the day. Entries will close one hour prior to the race start.
Participants in the 15-18km race MUST ENTER ONLINE before midnight on 1 March 2017. This is a requirement to ensure appropriate safety planning.
ONLINE ENTRIES CLOSE AT MIDNIGHT on Wednesday 8 March, 2017.

Event Check-in / Registration
Check-in/Registration on Friday 10th March will be at the Orewa Surf Club, closing at 8pm. All paddlers will receive their race shirts and numbered race bibs.

Late Registration on Saturday 11th March will be at the reserve next to the Orewa SLSC, closing at 11.30am.

Late Registration on Sunday 12th March will be at the reserve next to the Orewa SLSC, closing at 8.00am
