Fun and festivities for the whole family with a big SUP Expo, demos, have-a-go, kids races, team relay and the exciting 1.5km knockout slalom races... at Takapuna Beach, Sunday afternoon.  Plenty of action for paddlers of all abilities and spectators, with awesome spot prizes from our amazing sponsors.

The Festival marks day two of the National SUP Championships, which combines the exciting King of the Harbour 25km open ocean downwind race with Slalom racing on Sunday at Takapuna Beach.  Both disciplines will be awarded separately, with overall points being accumulated to crown the NZ Open, Womens and Unlimited Class National Champions on Sunday.  Festival race finalists in all classes (Open, Unlimited, Surfboard, Women, Masters, Novice and Junior) will be awarded prizes and trophies on Sunday.

King of the Harbour Open Ocean Race: One of four courses will be selected to present the competitors with at least 80% down-wind paddling. The final course will be determined by the wind direction 24 hours prior to the race. These 22-30km courses are estimated to take competitors around two hours to complete.
Course A : Waiheke to Viaduct Harbour. Wind direction E
Course B : Viaduct Harbour to Waiheke. Wind direction W
Course C : Gulf Harbour to Viaduct Harbour. Wind direction N
Course D : Viaduct Harbour to Gulf Harbour. Wind direction S
Please note this race is open to EXPERIENCED paddlers only. The cut-off time for race completion is 3 hours.
Sunday SUP Festival. Fun slalom race for all abilities. Each paddler competes in several elimination rounds of an ‘M’-shaped slalom course race, approximately 1.5km in length.

Saturday: King of the Harbour Race, Auckland Viaduct. Registration from 8am. 10.30am Ferry/Race Start. 12'6 Class and Unlimited Class. Experienced Paddlers Only*. SUP Leash, PFD and Flare Compulsory. Fullers ferry to transport competitors and their skis/boards to the start or from the finish.
Sunday: SUP Festival and NZ SUP Slalom. All abilities. 11.30am-12.30pm Registration. 1pm–4pm SUP Slalom Race/Have-a-go sessions. 4.30pm Relay Race. 5pm Prizegiving/BBQ at Takapuna Beach Club.
12'6 Class and 12'6 and Under Surfboard Class, Masters, Junior U16, Novice, Mens and Womens Divisions. Beginner paddleboard lessons, workshops and Red Air kids activities****. Expo area on reserve with SUP Retailers and Importers sponsor tents, displaying a range of SUP equipment and accessories and information, as well as a display of second hand gear for sale. Takapuna Beach Club open.

Entries for the King of the Harbour are now open and all KOH entrants are automatically entered in the Sunday SUP Slalom.** Pre-registration for the Sunday SUP Slalom is now open (see link above) and the entry fee can be paid in cash at the event.

All entrants will receive a Starboard NZ Paddle Challenge Race Vest which must be worn while competing.

Total prize pool over $5k, includes cash, a Starboard SUP, and sponsor product

* King of the Harbour entrants may be asked to provide a log of three (3) x 30km paddles showing distance, location, conditions, and time.

**Entry into the King of the Harbour Race automatically enters you into the Sunday slalom racing (12-4pm) and puts you in the running for the NZ SUP Champion title.

***Prizegiving for all finalists in all events on Sunday 1 April from 5pm at Takapuna Boating Club

****Northland Paddleboarding will be running free taster beginner sessions on the beach throughout the festival, along with races and fun activities for youngsters (weather and water conditions permitting!). Northland Paddleboarding is New Zealand's longest running fulltime paddleboarding school, and with ISA-qualified instructors and state-of-the-art teaching gear, if you've never had a go before then this is the perfect no-obligation opportunity to try the sport out.
